Mel Gibson & Dicaprio Team Up for Viking Flick

Of all the pairings I didn't expect to see, Mel Gibson and Leonardo Dicaprio rank right up there at the top. Dicaprio has this stately aura about him, while Gibson I always feel is on the fringe of the industry as a director even if he's totally mainsteam as an actor. It's an odd combination, to say the least. But now it appears the two will be working together, as Variety is reporting that Dicaprio will star in Mel Gibson's upcoming film revolving around the Viking culture. William Monahan(The Departed) will pen the script. Graham King is set to produce. King has worked with both Dicaprio and Gibson in the recent past, and was likely a key figure in setting this project up.

The film is being described early on as "unsparing", meaning it won't hold back on the violence, which should be expected considering Gibson's stark depictions in Braveheart, Apocalypto, and The Passion of the Christ. So expect plenty of heads getting lopped off and bounced down a flight of stairs.

Filming is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2010.
