Martin Lawrence Says BAD BOYS 3 is "Really Real". Huh?

Last August we had a story that Columbia had laid the smackdown on the hopes and dreams of yours truly and hired Peter Craig to start drafting a script for Bad Boys 3. Now in an interview with MTV while promoting the best film he's ever likely to make, Death at a Funeral, Martin Lawrence was keen to push the idea that Bad Boys 3 is definitely happening....

"Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like ‘Bad Boys,’ you have to take notice. I met with Michael Bay, and he said he’s onboard too — so it’s real…We’re just waiting on Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it’s really real."

Kinda hard to argue with that. Both the Fresh Prince and Bay have voiced their support for another film, the first one having been the catalyst for a lot of their future success. I can't see any reason why Bruckheimer wouldn't be interested, except for the fact that he'd be shelling out something upwards of $50M just to snag Smith and Bay, unless they agree to a lesser payday. Not bloody likely.

I can see why Lawrence is so hard up for another Bad Boys flick. Even though Death at a Funeral was damn funny, it wasn't exactly a world beater in terms of total grosses(so far). And let's face it, he ain't that far from slippin' back into crap like Black Knight 2...or Rebound 2....or landing on some lame Fox sitcom opposite Michael Strahan. Bad Boys 3 would be a much bigger career boost for him than anybody else involved.
