The Kraken wasn't just released, he roared at the box office for Warner Bros. this Easter weekend. Despite negative reviews and almost overwhelmingly poor response to the 3-D presentation, approximately 52% of Clash's total came from 3-D screens. Somebody needs to start a chart tracking how many ask for their money back after lackluster 3-D screenings. It's expected that once How to Train Your Dragon and Alice in Wonderland finally give up their hold on their 3-D theaters, Clash's box office tally may jump once again.
2. Why Did I Get Married, Too
Apparently more people are asking that question themselves, since Tyler Perry's sequel has exceeded the debut weekend of the 2007 hit original. Exit stats reveal that approximately 80% of the audience was African-American. No numbers yet on how many of those people realize they've been watching the same Tyler Perry movie for about ten years now.
3. How to Train Your Dragon
Last week's champeen dropped a mere 33%, thanks mostly in part to the fact that more than half of it's theaters continue to be in 3-D. Maybe it's me but I'm seeing this total as something of a disappointment.
4. The Last Song
Exit stats indicate that 80% of this film's audience, starring Miley Cyrus venturing away from Hannah Montana for the first time in a major role, was female. And bears crap in the woods. The Last Song debuted on Wednesday, getting a jump on it's competitors, and held up fairly well. It was sortof a perfect storm, though. Obviously Cyrus herself was a draw with the younger audience, but it was the name Nicholas Sparks that I think drew in the older crowd.
5. Alice in Wonderland
6. Hot Tub Time Machine
Remember that episode of Seinfeld when Kramer fell asleep in his hot tub and the heater broke? It really has nothing to do with this movie, except that I imagine the studio is feeling like they might've been in the hot tub a little too long themselves at this point. Disappointing.
7. The Bounty Hunter
8. Diary of a Wimpy Kid
9. She's Out of My League
10. Shutter Island
