director Adam McKay was on the list to helm an adaptation of Garth Ennis's violent superhero comic, The Boys. I just don't see it as a good fit. Apparently Sony Pictures has not been reading this site(shocker!!!) because now word has dropped that McKay is entering serious discussions for the job.Last we heard, Samuel Bayer(A Nightmare on Elm Street
) also wanted the gig, but Sony has been stuck on McKay's name recognition it seems. Bayer probably didn't do himself any favors with Elm Street, which lacked a defined look. I've said it before, but The Boys is the one major comic I really want to see get made into a flick, but only if it's done right. The series is ultra violent, bloody, hyper sexualized, and downright filthy. You think Kick-Ass
is vulgar and gratuitous? It's like Strawberry Shortcake by comparison to The Boys.The comic series, written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Darick Robertson, features a former government team of superpowered individuls whos job it is to police other superheroes. In this world, superheroes basically do whatever they please, from sexual deviance to violent outbursts. They even control branches of the government. The Boys use whatever means necessary, mostly through extreme violence, to keep them in check.
Here's hoping they get Simon Pegg to play Hughie, since he was modeled on the actor.
