Borat director to helm Jim Carrey comedy, Pierre Pierre

Seinfeld producer/writer Larry Charles has signed on to direct Pierre Pierre, the upcoming Jim Carrey comedy that was on 2008's Black List of the best scripts in Hollywood. The story, which is described as being very much in the vein of Borat(which Charles also directed), features a “self-indulgent, lazy, French nihilist who is transporting a stolen Mona Lisa from Paris to London.” Through the journey, “he comes to love his home country again.”

Edwin Cannistraci & Frederick Seton penned the highly acclaimed script, with aims for the film to be produced for around $20M.

This sounds like an excuse to hear Carrey's bad French accent for two hours. Not sure how up for that I am, but I like Larry Charles and expect he'll make this better than it has any right to be. Then again...he did direct Bruno, and that was a steaming pile.
