Lively vs. Johansson for lead role in Gravity

Oooh, girl fight! And a couple of hotties, too! Somebody get the oil and creamed corn!  Blake Lively and Scarlett Johansson are said to be the top two candidates to land the lead role in Alonfson Cuaron's(Children of Men) highly anticipated sci-fi drama, Gravity. Whoever gets the role will be starring opposite Robert Downey Jr. as astronauts working on the repair of the Hubble telescope. When space debris kills their crewmates and leaves them stranded, they must fight to make their way back to Earth. This was the same film previously attached to Angelina Jolie before she backed out. Marion Cotillard also was pursued with little success.

Warner Brothers is said to be very high on both, with screen testing having already been done. Lively's become something of a WB favorite thanks to her roles in Ben Affleck's film, The Town. Not to menton she's co-starring with Johansson's husband Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern. Hmmmm....

Filming would likely start next year, but nothing has been set in stone.

Anytime Cuaron makes a film it's a special event, but the actress he chooses for the part is going to have a major impact on my enthusiasm. I like them both, yet I feel like I've seen everything ScoJo has to offer. It'll be more interesting to see if Lively can continue some of the growth we've seen from her lately, and really capitalize on a meaty role just for her opposite one of Hollywood's best.
