If the shot of Luke Skywalker putting the finishing touches on his lightsaber, then flashing the emerald green blade at a bewildered C-3PO doesn't make you cream yourself with geeky giddiness, I don't know what will. The long desired but previously unseen footage of Luke completing his blade just before infiltrating Jabba's palace is reason enough to have me saving my paychecks for the upcoming Star Wars blu-ray release. We've known it was coming for months, but finally this weekend at Star Wars Celebration V, George Lucas made the big announcement. The entire six film series will be made available on Blu-Ray in the Fall of 2011.
Expect the usual gaggle of extras, including behind-the-scenes footage, documentaries, and other never before seen extras. There will be more deleted scenes than the one mentioned above, but even if there weren't it would be more than enough. No word on a price point as of yet. Who really cares? We'll all buy it regardless. For now, take a look at the green lightsaber scene for yourself, and start pinching those pennies.
