* We've known for awhile that
Marvel was planning to release smaller budgeted films featuring their lower tier characters, but this is the first time we've had any lip service on it from somebody who matters. Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio's president of production, says that he has a number of ideas for future productions, with Black Panther, Iron Fist, and Guardians of the Galaxy under consideration. Black Panther and Iron Fist? Yes. GOTG? No. Too many obscure characters and the budget would have to be astronomical. Feige also says that a SHIELD film featuring Nick Fury is also likely, and that The Avengers film might be seen more from that organization's perspective. Duh. Samuel L. Jackson told us
there'd be a Nick Fury film months ago.
* Tony Scott seems to be getting busier by the day, as he's now in talks to direct
Nemesis
, a film adaptation of Mark Millar's(
Kick-Ass
) comic about a Bruce Wayne-type guy who becomes a force for evil rather than good. I read the first issue of Nemesis, and think the concept is better than the end result. I still have a hard time with Scott jumping into the superhero realm, but this does sorta lend credence to that
rumor about him directing Wolverine 2, doesn't it?
* A rumor worth keeping under your hat, even if I think it's unlikely. Apparently Sony is high on nabbing Christoph Waltz(
Inglourious Basterds
) to play the villain in the Spider-Man reboot. It's widely assumed that
The Lizard will be the heel this go'round. Sony's entire reason for rebooting the franchise was to keep costs down. So why would they pursue a guy who's on fire right now and probably demanding a lot of money? I don't see this happening, but we shall see.
