Open Water duo returns to Sundance with new film, 'Silent House'

One of the most affecting shark films not named 'Jaws' was 2004's Open Water. The Sundance darling, directed at a slim trim budget of an estimated $500,000, was based on the true story of a couple that was left behind by in the middle of a shark infested ocean by their scuba diving group. Me being not so fond of the ocean, Open Water struck a nerve with me. The filmmakers, Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, used real life sharks in order to accurately portray the creatures' behavior. Open Water was a massive hit, earning $55M during it's run.  Now Kentis and Lau are back with their latest film, Silent House.

The duo will be bringing Silent House to the Sundance Film Festival at the out of competition Midnight section in Park City. Described as "a hauntingly choreographed descent into madness", the film is actually a remake of a Uruguayan horror, La Casa Muda. Elizabeth Olsen, yes she's related to Mary-Kate and Ashley, will star. This will be Chris Kentis' first feature directing gig since Open Water. At least he was smart enough not to direct the terrible sequel, Open Water 2: Adrift.

What, no Blanchard Ryan? I keep hoping the Open Water actress will make some sort of major comeback. She's had bit roles in films like It's Complicated and Beerfest, but nothing memorable. Oh well.
