Stephen Sommers will not return to direct GI Joe sequel

If you remember back during the production of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, there was some talk that maybe Paramount was less than happy with how director Stephen Sommers was handling things. There was even talk that the guy got shit-canned off the film completely. Well, obviously that didn't turn out to be true, and GI Joe went on to gross over $300M worldwide. Money cures a lot of ills, and those rumors quietly faded away. We've known for awhile that a sequel had already been greenlit, but now it looks like Somers won't be back to helm the further adventures of these "real American heroes".

The LA Times confirms that Sommers won't be returning, even though the cast is contractually bound for the sequel. The report says...

Two agents who represent other filmmakers have said they'd recently been approached about their clients coming on to helm the movie and were told that Sommers would not be getting behind the camera. Paramount declined to comment.

Somers is a particularly polarizing director. I loved his Mummy movies, but he hasn't done much to impress me since(hello Van Helsing
!)  He turned out to be a good choice for GI Joe, but honestly anybody could've done what he did I think. The only thing that really matters is the script, which is being written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese(Zombieland).

So who do you think would be a good choice to replace Somers as director?
