The Sunday Drive: 1/16/11

3. The Dilemma
Just how far would you go to protect a friend from a harsh truth? Ron Howard's new film takes Vince Vaughn and Kevin James out of their familiar comedic roles and plants them convincingly into a heavy, often painful relationship drama. Winona Ryder, Jennifer Connelly, and Channing Tatum round out an excellent supporting cast.
2. Black Swan
Darren Aronofsky's intense ballet thriller finally expands to over 2,000 theaters this week so there's no excuse to miss out on Natalie Portman's amazing performance.
1. Blue Valentine
A heartbreaking, emotionally scarring story of young love turned to dust, Blue Valentine is a romance that will burn into your memory. Through the glorious highs and devastating lows, Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling will pierce your heart with the raw intensity of their performances. A must see film.

DVD Pick of the Week: The Social Network

Revenge of the billionaire nerd? David Fincher's The Social Network seemed like a tough sell. Who really wants to see the origin story of a social networking site? Turns out a heck of a lot of people did, and those who did were treated to a whip smart story of greed, revenge, loyalty, and power. A firecracker script by Aaron Sorkin keeps the pace blistering, and Jesse Eisenberg provides a dark spin on his typical socially awkward geek role.  Do youself a favor and "LIKE" The Social Network today!
