The race for Snow White supremacy has a new leader! There are no less than three films currently running to be the first Snow White film to hit the big screen, all at varying degrees of readiness. The donkey end of the race is
Snow and the Seven, which Disney has Michael Arndt(
Toy Story 3
) touching up the script on. The leader was
Snow White and the Huntsman, Rupert Everett's action take on the fairy tale, which was to see Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the evil queen, and Viggo Mortensen as the Huntsman. Well that all went belly-up when
Viggo dropped out just a couple of days ago. So that leaves
The Brothers Grimm: Snow White as having stepped up, and with two brand new additions you could say it's now in the lead.
The film, directed by Tarsem Singh(
The Fall
,
The Cell
), is meant to be a darker, more faithful interpretation of the story. It already has big time starpower in the
form of Julia Roberts as the evil queen. Now Relativity has announced Armie Hammer will be joining as Prince Andrew, Snow White's love interest. Hammer has seen his stock rise a great deal ever since his dual role as the Winklevoss twins in
The Social Network
. He'll next be seen in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover biopic.
So if he's Prince Charming, he's gotta kiss somebody, right? Assuming it won't be a dwarf, there needs to be a leading lady.
Deadline reports that Saoirse Ronan(
The Lovely Bones
,
Atonement
) is the leading candidate to play Snow White. He's a fair bit older than her(he's 24, she's 17), but by the time the movie comes out that won't matter much. Ronan was most recently seen in
The Way Back
, and will be featured next in the kid assassin flick,
Hanna.
The Brothers Grimm: Snow White will be released on 3D on June 29th, 2012.
