Out of nowhere, Amy Adams cast as Lois Lane

Now this is a shock. The speculation has been running high for well over a month as to who would play Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman film. We've seen a bunch of names thrown around, like Lindsay Lohan, Kristen Stewart, Olivia Wilde, Rachel McAdams, and that's just a part of it. Now all of a sudden out of the clear blue sky, the role has been cast, and the winner was somebody not ever mentioned as far as I know: Amy Adams.

The LA Times reports that Adams got the news from Snyder today while he was in Paris promoting Sucker Punch. She'll be joining Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan "Pa" Kent, and Diane Lane as Martha "Ma" Kent.  Snyder seemed ecstatic about the decision, which makes sense since it was his...

Snyder: “There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder said. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

Adams has bee nominated three times for Academy Awards, the first for her breakout role in Junebug. The second came opposite Meryl Streep in Doubt, and the third most recently for The Fighter. To me she'll just always be the slutty chick in Drop Dead Gorgeous.  Um, she was pretty great in those pants in Night at the Museum 2, I must admit.  She probably wouldn't have been my top choice for Lois Lane, but if anything she's shown she can play grounded, spunky chicks very well. And if the role calls for her to be funny, Adams is a natural.
