Sure Shots: Johnny Depp; Samantha Morton; Doug Liman

* Johnny Depp has been eyeballin' a remake of The Thin Man, based on Dashiell Hammett's great detective novel which introduced us to socialite detectives, Nick and Norah Charles. The book had no sequels but spawned six mostly fantastic movies. Last October, Depp was still trying to bring in Rob Marshall(Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) to direct, but a writer had not yet been secured. That's now changed, as Jerry Stahl has come aboard to pen the script. Please let this one get off the ground!

* Robert Pattinson has revealed to MTV that Samantha Morton(In America) has joined the cast of David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis. He also notes that a young actress has been signed to play his wife in the film, but her name can't be revealed just yet.  Cosmopolis tells the story of a wealthy billionaire travelling across town in his stretch limo, and running into numerous headaches along the way. Paul Giamatti, and Juliette Binoche are already locked in. Giamatti, Binoche, and Morton all in the same flick? I'm in Heaven! Not even Pattinson can screw that up.

* Doug Liman is suddenly very in demand. The Fair Game director just started developing his biopic on the life of world adventurer, Two Gun Cohen, and now he's got another project already picking up steam. Liman is currently attached to direct a sci-fi heist film he's been angling for since 2007 when it was called Luna. Now without an official title, the film is about a group of former space employees traveling around the world stealing equipment in order to journey into space and acquire a new energy source.  A number of stars are already said to be interested, including Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Rachel McAdams, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch and Chris Pine. Thanks to THR for exclusively breaking this story, noting that production could begin as soon as this summer.
