* And just like a zombie,
World War Z might just be rising from the dead. Last we heard about the big budget film set to be directed by Marc Forster and star Brad Pitt, it was looking like
financing was going to be an issue. Paramount wanted the very violent film toned down to PG-13(boooo again!!), and things weren't looking good. Now it appears that David Ellison's Skydance Productions may be stepping in to fill the cash void, along with a couple of other financiers. If all works out, it's going to be a race for the film to beat out a horde of similar genre titles on the horizon. World War Z tells of the aftermath of a massive zombie war that devastates the planet. Thanks to
Deadline for the info on this story.
* Man, I haven't heard anything about
I, Frankenstein since 2009 when it was announced Kevin Grevioux(
Underworld
) would be adapting his Dark Horse comic for the big screen. Then again I haven't been listening for anything new, either. The comic is a modernization featuring Dr. Frankenstein's dreaded monster, who goes out on his own and finds himself in pitched battle against a bunch of iconic movie monsters. Pretty cool. Now the film has a director in Scott Beattie, writer of
Pirates of the Caribbean
and
GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
.
* Hailee Steinfeld's people have been a bit slow in cashing in on her
True Grit
success. Sure she was up for the lead in
The Hunger Games, but that fell through. She does have
Forgotten, the thriller which was picked up specifically for her, but clearly the way to go is to put her in a tentpole so she remains relevant. What's the best way to do that? Yeah, another friggin' fairy tale!!
Deadline reports that Steinfeld is attached to a script which would modernize the tale of
Sleeping Beauty
, being told from her perspective. Fairy Tales are the dinosaurs and volcano flicks of the last decade, it seems.
