1st look at Robert Pattinson in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis

The good luck fairy kissed Robert Pattinson when Colin Farrell dropped out of David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis to take on Total Recall. If your goal is distance yourself from all that Twilight nonsense, then Cronenberg is the director and this is the type of film to do it. Farrell's departure caused a change in approach as Marion Cotillard left as well. The film would now skew much younger with Pattinson in the lead and Sarah Gadon(Charlie Bartlett) signing on.

Based on a 2003 novel by Don DeLillo, the story is basically a screwed up, modern day take on The Odyssey. Pattinson plays Eric Packer, a 28 year old multi-billionaire Wall Street wiz who makes a trek across town in his souped up limo to get a haircut. Along the way he cheats on his wife, Elise; loses a bunch of clients millions of dollars in a bad investment; and gets chased down by a couple guys who may be seeking revenge.

If I have any worry about Pattinson holding my interest with the entire film basically set in a car, then the supporting cast is sure to make up for it. Samantha Morton(The Messenger), Juliette Binoche(Cache), Paul Giamatti(American Splendor), and Mathieu Almaric(The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) are all set to teach Mr. Pattinson a thing or two about acting.

Cronenberg's daughter has tweeted the first image from the film, showing Pattinson and Gadon as Eric and Elise. You can check that out below...
