It's been a long time coming waiting for Alexander Payne to follow-up his flawless, tragi-comic wine lover comedy, Sideways. Seven years, to be exact. Even though he won the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award for that one, he's spent the last few years serving mostly in a producer capacity on the TV series, Hung, and the Ed Helms comedy Cedar Rapids. But now he's back in one of my most anticipated films of the year, The Descendants, starring George Clooney.
Based on a book by Kaui Hart Hemmings, Clooney stars as a father trying to reconnect with his children after his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. There's some other stuff going on as well which I'll try not to spoil, but the clip which Fox Searchlight just released will give you a pretty big hint. The clip is part of a push to get you to their website with the title "Who Is He".
Beyond Clooney, The Descendants has an impressive cast featuring Judy Greer, Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Robert Forster, Shailene Woodley, and Mary Birdsong. The below clip is short, but you'll get a chance to see Clooney look like a moron for awhile, which is always fun. Check it out below, then mark your calendar for The Descendants when it hits on December 16th!
