I'm a sucker for anything involving mythology, in particular the Greek and Roman gods. As a kid I was a voracious reader of their stories, and even today I can get stuck for hours on Wikipedia reading the entries for some of my favorite characters from those myths. But when it comes to movies based around them, I've mostly been disappointed. I loved Troy, even though it expressly removed the gods from the equation. The original Clash of the Titans was one of my favorites as a child and is still a pretty enjoyable walk down memory lane for me. Don't get me started on last year's remake. The less said on that the better.
So it's an understatement to say that I'm amped for Tarsem Singh's Immortals. Even though he's only a couple of movies into his career, he's established himself with a visual style that is truly unique. I've watched the trailer so many times I'm seeing more visions of Freida Pinto than usual in a typical day. Entertainment Weekly has a new cover image featuring Henry Cavill(Man of Steel) as Theseus, leading an army of men into battle.
The Immortals trailer will be attached to showings of Thor this weekend, but in case you missed it last time, check it out below! Immortals hits theaters on November 11th!
On 11/11/11, witness the 3-D epic battle as mere men become Immortals. Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares.
Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king’s hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion…until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope.
Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders–including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff) — one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend.
