If you've been skeptical of The Bourne Legacy so far due to it's not featuring Matt Damon or Jason Bourne, then maybe this news will help calm your nerves. Deadline is reporting that Rachel Weisz is in "deep" talks to join the Tony Gilroy written/directed thriller, as an operative in a deadly organization more dangerous than the one that plagued Bourne.
This is an intriguing development, because while I think new star Jeremy Renner is a capable actor, it yet to be seen if he has the same charismatic qualities as Damon. Add to that the fact that this story will focus on entirely new characters and nothing about the film screams success. Adding Weisz brings instant credibility. For her, Bourne is her next big jump into more high profile gigs after a career mostly spent in critically acclaimed dramas. Last week Weisz entered talks to play an evil witch in Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful.
Here also lies the biggest roadblock: scheduling. Oz is set to shoot this summer, while Bourne kicks off in September. Can she fit in both? I hope so. There can never be too much Rachel Weisz.
