Trailer Time: Project Nim, directed by James Marsh
It's been a couple of years since James Marsh blew me and pretty much everybody else away with his fantastic documentary, Man on Wire. Since then he directed the strongest portion of the Red Riding Trilogy, and has been hard at work on his much-anticipated doc, Project Nim. The film chronicles a groundbreaking experiment in the 1970s designed to prove that a chimp could be taught to act like a human. The subject, Nim Chimpsky, was raised in a human environment, taught sign language and treated like a member of a human family.
A full trailer has finally been released for it, and a tentative release date set for July 8th 2011. As you might expect, a lot of deep questions about the line between man and animal are going to be addressed, but I like the light tone of the trailer, making it feel a bit like a fairy tale. Check out the trailer for Project Nim below, and let me know what you think.
