Alison Pill and Greta Gerwig join Woody Allen's Bop Decameron

Allison Pill's fiery performance as Zelda Fitgerald in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris is a large part of why that film is so spectacular. With it well on the way to being Allen's highest grossing effort in years, it's no wonder he's anxious to bring Pill back. With his next film, Bop Decameron, set to begin shooting in Rome next month, Allen has wrapped up the primary cast and Allison Pill(Milk) will be along for the ride. She'll be joined by another one of my favorites, Greta Gerwig(Greenberg, No Strings Attached).

A press release confirms the entire cast for the film as follows: Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. Co-stars include Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi. Yep, Allen will be making his return to an on-screen role for the first time since Scoop in 2006. Curiously absent from the list are Sergio Rubini, Isabella Ferrari, and Maricel Alvarez, all of whom were reported to be in talks a couple of weeks ago.

Bop Decameron could be based on The Decameron, a 14th century series of lewd novellas written by Giovanni Boccaccio. The film will involve four vignettes set in Rome. Two of which will feature American actors, the other Italian. As of now there's no word on who anyone will be in the film, nor do we have any firm hold on the plot.

Allison Pill is a fantastic actress, who first caught my eye in the little seen Thanksgiving flick, Pieces of April. She's gone on to be a scene stealer in practically every film she's appeared in(except for Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen), including last year's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Greta Gerwig began her career as part of the "mumblecore" movement, writing  and directing films like Hannah Takes the Stairs and Baghead. She's recently made the jump to more mainstream stuff and has been a comedic breath of fresh air. It was her role opposite Ben Stiller in Greenberg that brought her to the forefront. She most recently appeared as the love interest to Russell Brand in the remake of Arthur.
