If Nicholas Winding Refn has his way Christina Hendricks will be your next Wonder Woman

Did anybody really think that horrible looking Wonder Woman TV series would take off? It's David E. friggin' Kelley. I know the guy has a number of hit shows on his resume, but for every Ally McBeal there are two or three Girls Clubs. The failure of Wonder Woman to even be picked up for a trial run could possibly have been a deathknell to any future flicks involving the Amazonian warrior, but if Nicholas Winding Refn(Valhalla Rising, Bronson) has his way he'll be the man to bring her to the big screen. And if he does, Christine Hendricks will be his top choice to play her.

Refn hasn't been shy about his love for the character and his desire to helm a film about her, admitting at one point that his plan for making more Hollywood friendly films was partially so he could earn that opportunity. After mostly low key, violent films like Bronson and the Pusher series, he's jumping into the mainstream with Drive and a Logan's Run remake, both starring Ryan Gosling. Hendricks, who has a supporting role in Drive, has clearly made an impression on Refn...

Refn: “If I get to do it, she’s going to be it.”

Hendricks has expressed a love for the character as well, so let's hope the Mad Men starlet gets a chance to don the star spangled undies and fly the invisible jet someday.

In the DC Comics Universe, Wonder Woman isn't just some hot chick with supernatural strength. She's a part of "The Big Three", along with Superman and Batman. She is one of the elite, yet unlike many of her comrades she's the only one never to have had their own movie. With Warner Brothers making moves towards a Justice League film, and developing a number of superhero projects leading up to it, I imagine it's only a matter of time before she does. Here's hoping the lackluster debut of Green Lantern doesn't hurt that possibility. [Vulture via ThePlaylist]
