After building his career as a special effects maestro working alongside The Wachowskis, James McTeigue struck out on his own with 2006's V for Vendetta. A lot of people dug that flick, yet I'm at a loss to figure out why unless it's because they have a fetish for bald chicks. He then followed that up in 2009 with the inexplicably terrible Ninja Assassin. How do you screw up a film about ninjas battling in the city streets for 90 minutes? McTeigue figured out a way. Well now he's back again with The Raven, something of change of pace for him. The film stars John Cusack as poet Edgar Allan Poe, who teams with a detective(Luke Evans) to uncover the identity of a killer using Poe's work as a basis for the murders. Alice Eve and Oliver Jackson-Cohen(Faster) co-star.
Despite the tired concept, I'm holding out hope for this one mainly because Cusack could use a hit right now. Hot Tub Time Machine was a joke, and the less said about 2012 the better. One thing I can definitely say is that they're cranking out some eye catching posters for the film, including the new one(seen above) drenched in blood red. The Raven will hit theaters on March 9th.
