Ryan Gosling in Terrence Malick's next film? Nicolas Winding Refn to re-team with Carey Mulligan?

In our interview with Nicolas Winding Refn yesterday, the filmmaker had nothing but great things to say about his new best buddy, Ryan Gosling, and how their brains are aligned when it comes to making certain kinds of movies. Very cool. He also had a lot to say about the process of working with Drive co-star Carey Mulligan(she stayed at his house?? Really?), and it was clear he loved having her on set as well. So much so that apparently he'll be working with her again very soon.

During a Q&A last night after a screening of Drive(best film of the year? Hmmm...), our friends at FilmSchoolRejects caught two bits of information relating to both Gosling and Mulligan. Refn let slip that Gosling may be appearing in Terrence Malick's next film, whatever that mystery project turns out to be. We likely won't find out until days before the darn thing premieres, just like with Tree of Life. Gosling would squeeze it in between Only God Forgives and the remake of Logan's Run, both with Refn. He's currently shooting The Place Beyond the Pines from director Derek Cianfrance.

Speaking of Logan's Run, it's possible that one may get pushed back just a little bit, as Refn has another film in the works with Mulligan which may shoot after Only God Forgives. One of the things Refn constantly referred to in our interview was how he shoots his films from a very "feminine" perspective. I get what he's saying, but all of his films have featured a lot of big, brutal dudes doing nasty things. It'd be nice to see how he puts this style into effect with an actual female lead, especially one the caliber of Mulligan.
