Melissa McCarty/Paul Feig comedy titled Dumb Jock; writing comedy with director of The Help

Bridesmaids turned out to be a gift not just for audiences, but for pretty much everybody in the cast. None more so than long time character actress Melissa McCarthy, who has been a cog in practically every high profile comedy being developed over the next year. And did I mention we can now add "Emmy winner" to her profile, securing the statue for her role on the CBS comedy Mike & Molly? It's a long overdue honor, and if there was any justice she'd get a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Oscars, but it'll never happen. Regardless, she's got a lot on her plate, and in a great piece in the print edition of THR she talks up her future projects.

One of the first shots out of the gate following Bridesmaids was a comedy being developed by Paul Feig and Judd Apatow, that would star McCarthy and possibly Jon Hamm. Initially pitched as an unconventional love story, we now know the film will be titled Dumb Jock. No other details on it at this point, but she does have a couple of other possibilities that seem closer to her heart.

The first is a dark comedy she's writing with Tate Taylor, who has also had a hell of a year as the director of The Help. McCarthy revealed the duo, both members of sketch comedy group The Groundlings, are about half finished with the script.

The second is Tammy, a road trip comedy she's writing about a woman who sees her life crumbling down around her. Needing to get out of town, she wants to borrow her hard drinking grandmother's car. The only catch is that she insists on tagging along, leading to a wild trip to Mt. Rushmore...

McCarthy:  "It's so funny, and it also kind of breaks my heart." “It’s these two women who are not where they thought they’d be, and they kind of band together."

As if she isn't busy enough, McCarthy will stick close to the Apatow family appearing in the director's upcoming Knocked Up spinoff possibly titled This is Forty. And she'll also pair up with Jason Bateman in the comedy ID Theft.

What about a Bridesmaids 2? Any chance the girls can come together one more time? Maybe for Megan's nuptials to the guy she met on the plane?  Jon Hamm doesn't seem too optimistic, telling E!Online...

Hamm: “I don’t think Kristen [Wiig] is going to do it.”

I'd love to see it happen, because I think there are so many characters in Bridesmaids that we've only seen glimpses of. Who wouldn't want to see more of Megan's puppy hoarding household? Or take a look inside Wendi McLendon-Covey's chararacter and her horrible marriage? Here's hoping Kristen changes her mind if that's really the hold up.
