Arnold Schwarzenegger lines up Black Sands, yet another lame sounding action flick
It's understandable that after being away so long from the Hollywood spotlight, Arnold Schwarzenegger would want to fill his schedule with movies that remind people of when he was considered great. Like in the 1980s. Y'know, those movies when he barely spoke two dozen words and carried around weapons the size of small homes. But those movies kinda went away for awhile, and since he came back it's like he lit a fire under the whole genre.
Arnie is set to star in Black Sands, which sounds like something they'd have been begging John McTiernan to direct twenty years ago. He'll play a loner who wages wear against a weapons manufacturer and his private army. Steven Seagal made this movie once before, only he replaced the weapons manufacturer with Jamaicans and called it Marked for Death. Or actually Arnie made this movie before, too, back when it was called Commando. Or Eraser. Ugh. The tone of Black Sands is described as Man on Fire meets High Plains Drifter. In theory, that sounds awesome. Considering the creative folks involved I have no hope that's what we'll get.
The script comes courtesy of Skip Woods, responsible for X-men Origins: Wolverine and the upcoming fifth Die Hard film. So this is clearly a brainy affair we're lookin' at. Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy, the duo behind the "real life Navy Seals" movie, Act of Valor, will be behind the camera. Production kicks off, fittingly, on April 1st 2012. [Deadline]
