Don Johnson to play an evil slave owner in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained
Somebody's been digging through his old Miami Vice VHS tapes. Or better yet, rifling through the 1980s section of his collection. That person would be Quentin Tarantino, who has been plucking from the past to help fill out the cast for his upcoming western, Django Unchained. Along with other 80s staples like Dennis Christopher(Chariots of Fire), Gerald McRaney(Simon & Simon), and Kurt Russell, Don Johnson has now joined the cast.
Unlike his colleagues, Johnson has barely taken a break throughout his career, starring in eight films since his long running series Nash Bridges went off the air. This year alone he's been featured in the ensemble comedy A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, and the Nick Swardson comedy Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star. Last year he was a part of Robert Rodriguez's Machete.
In Django, he'll play yet another villain, this one a slave owner named Spencer “Big Daddy” Bennett. Bennett is the guy who employs the three brothers who sold Django(Jamie Foxx) and his wife Broomhilda into slavery. So yeah, he's not a nice guy.
Django Unchained also stars Christoph Waltz, Leonardo Dicaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Laura Cayouette, and supposedly Michael K. Williams. Look for it to hit theaters next year on Christmas Day. [Deadline]
