Is Skyfall the title of the next James Bond film? Who cares?
With the emergence of internet news sites and blogs reporting on every single facet of every big time movie production(hello there!!), a certain level of secrecy has become an accepted part of the biz. I'm cool with that. I don't need to know every detail of Prometheus before it comes out. I don't want to see Bane standing around The Dark Knight Rises set having a sip of coffee. That's stupid. But what I simply don't understand is all the hand wringing over a movie's friggin' title.
For two years now we've been referring to the next James Bond film as just "Bond 23". A working title obviously, with the assumption that before too long we'd know the real deal and could move on. Instead, we(and I include myself in this) have been killing ourselves trying to figure out what the movie will be called. Maybe it's due to the last film having the wretched title of Quantum of Solace that everybody's so hung up on this. But for me, I'm just sorta over it. We'll find out the name soon enough, and perhaps we already have.
The last rumored title was Carte Blanche, taken from an upcoming Bond novel with a suspiciously similar plot. However that was quickly shot down by the film's producers. Before that, there was Red Sky At Night, which never seemed to gain any real traction. And now the latest comes from What!Culture, who noticed that Sony had registered a number of domain names, including skyfall-themovie.com, skyfall-film.net, and jamesbondskyfall.com.
Jackpot, right? Well, not really. Skyfall may very well be what the flick is called, or it could just be the studios hedging their bets. They may have a number of options on the table, and Skyfall is one. Or maybe Skyfall is the name of some Bond video game, book, or whatever. So it's not exactly a lock.
With a release date set for November 9th 2012, here's what else we know about the film up to this point. Obviously Daniel Craig will be back. Ralph Fiennes is apparently in for a "complex" role, along with Javier Bardem as the bad guy. Naomi Harris is on to play Moneypenny, and likely Judi Dench will return as M. There have been a number of actresses rumored to play the Bond Girl, including Oliva Wilde, Mararita Levieva, and Berenice Marlohe. Peter Morgan, John Logan, and Patrick Marber helped hammer out the final version of the script.
