Javier Bardem to voice the villain in Despicable Me sequel

It took me a couple of times before I really started to love Despicable Me, but eventually I was hooked by those precocious orphans and the way they transformed sad sack evil genius Gru(Steve Carell) into a halfway decent dude. Plus the minions are too funny to be denied. The world apparently couldn't resist them, either, as the animated flick earned over $500M, ensuring there would be a sequel. Heck, we've already got early promo posters for it. Carell will obviously be back, but it looks like my thought that Gru would maybe slip back into a life of crime was way off, as Javier Bardem has just signed on to voice the villain.

Plot details are basically nonexistent at this stage, and with the film not due to open until July 2013 it'll be awhile before we do. It's always possible Bardem's character will be a coin flipping, cattle gun carrying, bringer of death like in No Country For Old Men. That would be friggin' awesome, but maybe a little too rough for the kiddies. [THR]
