Sure Shots: Catherine Zeta-Jones; George Romero; Matt Damon
* Remember Catherine Zeta-Jones? The sexy but mostly unseen(lately) actress will play Russell Crowe's cheating wife in the neo-noir, Broken City. Directed by Albert Hughes(Menace II Society), the film also stars Mark Wahlberg as a disgraced former cop turned detective who discovers more than he bargained for while investigating the Mayor's wife for infidelity. Although she's got a handful of big upcoming projects(Rock of Ages being one), Zeta-Jones hasn't been seen on the big screen by anybody really since 2007's underwhelming rom-com, No Reservations.
* I respect George Romero. I really do. The horror maestro basically invented the whole zombie sub-genre. But he hasn't made a good flick in years, and likely won't. Even as zombies have become the new vampires in terms being "cool" monsters, Romero's recent movies aren't saying much of anything. With that said, I like the sound of what he's got cookin' up next. Romero is reportedly working alongside author Steven Schlozman on an adaptation of his novel, The Zombie Autopsies: Secret Notebooks from the Apocalypse, about an infected doctor's attempts to cure the zombie virus before it kills him too. * Matt Damon's directorial debut, which he's previously stated would star John Krasinski(The Office), was assumed to be the road trip crime caper Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses. Well turns out things have changed. Damon will still be pairing up with Krasinski, only it'll be on something totally different. Instead the untitled film is an Erin Brockovich-style drama with touches of comedy, with Damon co-starring as a salesman who arrives in a small town only to have his entire life questioned. While Krasinski's role in the film is still unknown, he co-wrote the script alongside Damon and developed the story with author Dave Eggers. It's still expected that Damon will direct Father Daughter Time in the future, likely after this is completed. [Variety]
