Mark Wahlberg, Marion Cotillard, Zoe Saldana circling Guillaume Canet's Blood Ties
I've only had the chance to see one film from French actor turned director, Guillaume Canet, but what an impression it made! 2006's hit thriller, Tell No One, is one of those movies I try to steer my friends to when they whine about not wanting to watch a foreign film. The level of suspense I'd put up there with any Hollywood creation, which may be why the film is being remade right now with Ben Affleck at the helm. Oh well.
American remakes aside, Canet is looking to make his English language debut soon, and he's putting together a top notch group to do it with. Titled Blood Ties, the film would be a remake of the 2008 film, Les Liens Du Sang, about two brothers on opposite sides of the law. Sounds a little bit like James Gray's 2007 crime flick, We Own the Night, doesn't it? Funny you should say that, because Canet is working alongside Gray on the script. Also, Gray's star in that film, Mark Wahlberg, is said to be eyeing one of the lead roles. Canet's current lady love, Marion Cotillard, is also on board, with Zoe Saldana circling a role as well. This is shaping up to be a film to keep a close eye on.
When this could possibly shoot depends on the schedules of the principles. Zoe Saldana has Star Trek 2 next year, and Wahlberg never gets a moment to breathe. Cotillard could be busy as well, since she's attached to another of James Gray's upcoming films. If she's busy, maybe Canet can enlist the services of his ex-wife, Diane Kruger? Lucky bastard.
