Trailer Time: 21 Jump Street, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum
So this version of 21 Jump Street is basically Dumb and Dumber meets Cops? Ok, I can dig it. There was always the possibility this is how it would end up, with Jonah Hill starring and co-writing the script(with Michael Bacall), and surprisingly it seems to have worked out for the best. We're getting our first look at the comedy remake of the 1980s TV series, and so far it's hitting on all the right notes.
Hill and Channing Tatum star as two moronic cops who land a plush gig infiltrating a high school to ferret out a drug ring. What makes this work is that the stupid premise of a bunch of adults trying to blend in with kids isn't lost on anybody(even the cops themselves), opening the door for plenty of Superbad-style raunchy humor as both guys try desperately to be cool again. I'm also Ice Cube playing against type as their grizzled Captain. Wasn't he the same guy who used to shout "F**k the Police?" Maybe I'm wrong. I'm very curious to see how Johnny Dep's cameo is going to fit in all this. Check out the trailer below, but watch it at home, not at work.....
Phil Lord and Chris Miller(Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) are directing. 21 Jump Street opens on March 16th 2012!
