Chris Evans in talks to star in Bong Joon-Ho's 'Snow Piercer'
After a couple of months passed without much talk on Snow Piercer, the sci-fi adaptation directed by awesome South Korean director, Bong Joon-Ho(The Host, Mother), I was starting to get worried. The film is based on Le Transperceneige, a great French graphic novel that's like The Road if it took place on a train. It takes place in a future where most of the world's population has been wiped out due to extreme climate change, leaving the world in a perpetual winter. The few who have survived now live on a moving train with no clear destination, and as supplies dwindle the fight to survive is on.
If that doesn't make you drool with anticipation, Joon-Ho is leaving nothing to chance for his English language debut. He's co-writing the script with Park Chan-Wook, the mastermind behind Oldboy and Thirst, and already has his frequent collaborator, Song Kang-Ho(Thirst) set to star as a Han Solo-type. Need more to get excited about? How about if Captain America joins the cast?
Variety reports that Chris Evans is in negotiations for an unspecified role, making this another smaller project he's cramming in amidst his many blockbuster efforts. Evans has actually been making some damn good choices when it comes to the films he chooses, and this would definitely count as one of the smarter decisions he's made. Let's just assume he ate a brain tumor for breakfast the day he gave the thumbs up to What's Your Number?. Evans will be seen next in The Avengers, and at some point he'll have to start getting buff for a Captain America sequel. Right now he's filming The Iceman, a mob flick starring Michael Shannon, David Schwimmer, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Filming on Snow Piercer is expected to begin in March, so the rest of the international ensemble should start falling into place quickly. Hopefully we'll see it fairly early in 2013 or maybe even late this year?
