Trailer Time: 'God Bless America', written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait
Remember the early days of Bobcat Goldthwait's career? When he was an actor in films like One Crazy Summer and Police Academy, and he always gave us this weird sortof gutteral scream? Did anybody think way back then that he'd become one of our most unique, twisted and insightful filmmakers? A couple of years ago he surprised me and a lot of others with World's Greatest Dad, a bleak as night comedy starring Robin Williams as a father who exploits his son's death for personal fame. With his latest film, God Bless America, Goldthwait is going even further down the rabbit hole and taking literal aim at all those people in the world he thinks aren't fit to live.
The film stars Joel Murray, who some may recognize from One Crazy Summer(he's also Bill Murray's brother), as a man who is fed up with the deterioration of this country's values. Politics, MTV, stupid celebrities famous for no damn good reason(hi Kardashians!)...all these things are wearing on his nerves. When he's diagnosed with a possibly fatal brain tumor, he decides to take matters into his own hands and start killing everybody who rubs him the wrong way. He hooks up with a similarly minded teenage girl(Tara Lynne Barr) and they go off on a Natural Born Killers style road trip.
This looks insane, and personally I can't wait to see where it goes. Look for it to start popping up in theaters sometime around the spring. Check out the awesome new trailer below...
