Chris Rock and Melissa McCarthy to play a "Jerry Springer couple" in new comedy?

Chris Rock has entered into an odd phase of his career, one where he seems to be gravitating more towards indie pictures, and the occasional writing/directing gig. I like it, though, because he's way too talented to get stuck making crap like Death At a Funeral or heaven forbid Grown Ups 2.  Currently, Rock can be seen romancing Julie Delpy in 2 Days in New York, the sequel to her 2007 small budget hit, 2 Days in Paris. Lucky guy.

For his next writing and directing effort, Rock is looking to pair up with somebody more on his comedic level, like Bridesmaids breakout star, Melissa McCarthy.  Speaking with 24 Frames, Rock revealed he's "trying to romance" McCarthy into playing his wife in a dysfunctional couple, or as he calls them a "Jerry Springer couple" in an untitled comedy. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but Rock claims to have made some inroads. It'll certainly make for a unique pairing, and one I'd love to see play out.

It's probably going to depend on scheduling, and McCarthy is busier now than she's ever been in her career. She's got the road trip film, Tammy, upcoming, along with ID Theft alongside Jason Bateman. And that's just a part of it as projects with Paul Feig and others loom. For Rock, he'll be seen next in the pregnancy comedy What To Expect When You're Expecting. 2 Days in New York is currently making the festival rounds, however it'll likely be out some time later this year as it was picked up by Magnolia Pictures.
