Dwayne Johnson confirmed for Michael Bay's 'Pain and Gain'; Ed Harris circling a role
I know there are some people out there who want Michael Bay to skip all this indie movie nonsense and get on with Transformers 4, but you're going to have to wait awhile longer. Pain and Gain, his Fargo-esque crime flick about a bunch of muscle heads who royally screw up a kidnapping plot, is speeding along, with recent reports having Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson considering the lead role.
Vulture confirms that Johnson has won out, playing one of the Florida bodybuilders who kidnap and rob a wealthy businessman with plans to murder him. Only they turn out to be morons, and the guy recovers from his injuries, only to hire a private investigator to track his assailants down. As if the idea of Johnson playing an idiotic weightlifter isn't cool enough, Ed Harris is apparently circling the role of the investigator. Harris and Bay know each other pretty well, having worked together on The Rock.
With a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely(Captain America: The First Avenger), the micro-budgeted film(about $20M) should begin filming in the spring.
