'Haywire' star Gina Carano to star in action flick, ''In the Blood'
Steven Soderbergh struck gold when he found MMA star Gina Carano and immediately cast her to lead his revenge thriller, Haywire. She was a breath of fresh air to a role that normally only somebody like Angelina Jolie would even be considered for, and Carano not only showed her physicality but an ability to hold her own opposite heavyweights like Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, and Michael Douglas. Thankfully, the film's disappointing box office hasn't caused studios to think twice about casting her, as she's just landed the lead in an action film from John Stockwell.
Stockwell is probably best known for his aquatic films Blue Crush and Into the Blue, or the forgettable vacation horror, Turistas. He'll direct In the Blood, starring Carano as a wife who desperately tracks down the men who kidnapped her husband while they're vacationing in the Caribbean. Presumably she'll kick a little ass along the way, as Stockwell informed THR that the film will showcase her fighting and acting abilities. The script comes from Bennett Yallin and James Robert Johnston(The Howling: Reborn).
The film is being described as being in the vein of Taken, which should suit Carano perfectly, and let's face it, she'll be a damn sight more fun to watch than old Liam Neeson doddering through another brawl. That combined with Stockwell's typically gorgeous cinematography could make this a film worth getting excited over. Production could begin in late spring or early summer in Puerto Rico.
