Sure Shots: Shannon Woodward; Guillermo Del Toro; 'The Night Circus'

* Shannon Woodward(Raising Hope, Man of the House) has joined the cast of Adult World, a comedy starring Emma Roberts as an Ivy League grad who takes a job at an adult bookstore to make ends meet. Woodward will play her best friend, a punk/goth anarchist who bonds with Roberts' character over their mutual rebellion. John Cusack and Evan Peters co-star, with Scott Coffey(Ellie Parker) directing. Production is currently underway. [Deadline]

* At this point we see more from Guillermo Del Toro as a producer than as a director. That's ok with me as he rarely puts his name on anything that's terrible(except Don't Be Afraid of the Dark). He'll next lend the power of his name to an animated film titled Day of the Dead. Before you get too excited, it's got nothing to do with zombies. It instead is a romance set against the backdrop of the Mexican holiday. Jorge R. Gutierrez will direct and co-write the script along with Doug Landale(Happily N'Ever After). We've still got a year long wait for Del Toro's next directorial effort, the gigantic monsters vs. humans epic, Pacific Rim.

* Summit will continue to try and fill the Twilight gap with another tween novel adaptation, this time of Erin Morganstern's fantasy novel, The Night Circus. Moira Buffini(Jane Eyre) will adapt the story, which follows two young magicians battling out their fathers' rivalry in a magical traveling circus which only appears from sunrise to sunset. [Deadline]
