Is it possible that the two films Terrence Malick has upcoming will be more connected than he's previously let on? The director, who usually takes years between projects, has three films either completed or set to begin shooting this year. The one we know is finished is his romance film with Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams. The other two, Lawless and Knight of Cups, feature a lot of crossover in their casts, with Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett set to star in both. You can add one more powerhouse name to that list, as Deadline reports Natalie Portman will be featured in both as well.
Let's start with Knight of Cups, which will shoot first this summer. We know practically nothing about it, except that Bale, Blanchett, Portman, and Isabel Lucas(Immortals) will star.
And then there's Lawless, which we've seen numerous pre-production images from already, taken during the Austin City Limits music festival. While details are slim, the story appears to have something to do with a douchebag record exec, played by Bale. Portman will join the rest of the insanely talented cast that includes Blanchett, Ryan Gosling(!), Haley Bennett, and Rooney Mara(!!). Does it really matter what the film is about with a cast like that? Probably not.
I don't know who kicked Malick in the pants and got him working this fast all of a sudden, but that guy deserves a drink on the house.
