Vince Vaughn to star in action film 'Lucky Strike', directed by Tony Scott

Fans of Vince Vaughn justifiably did cartwheels and popped some champagne when it was revealed he'd be reteaming with his Wedding Crashers bud, Owen Wilson, for the workplace comedy, Interns. While that film will be gearing up for a summer shoot with Shawn Levy at the helm, Vaughn may be taking a step into something he's never done before. Like leading an action movie. From Tony Scott. Seriously.

Deadline reports that Scott, who has about a million projects on the backburner(hello Top Gun 2!!?), is planning an action vehicle for Vaughn titled Lucky Strike. The script comes from Henry Bean, who provided the awesome writing behind The Believer, Deep Cover, and Internal Affairs. Let's just ignore that Basic Instinct 2 debacle, Bean can write his ass off. The story follows a DEA agent who teams with a drug runner to take down a cartel. Of course Vince Vaughn is the first guy you'd think of for it!

The $80M project looks to begin in the late summer or early fall, so if Interns goes smoothly Vaughn should be able to just squeeze it into his schedule.  The potential hang up is Scott, who as mentioned before seems to have a new potential gig every week. Besides Top Gun 2, he's also working on a remake of The Wild Bunch, an adaptation of John Grisham's novel The Associate, and that long gestating Hell's Angels.  Could Lucky Strike actually jump ahead of all of those and be next on Scott's list? It's possible, but don't bet the house on it.
