Randy Orton confirmed for 'The Marine: Homefront'; plot details revealed

Hmmmm...plot? The Marine? Oxymoron? Just a few days ago it was rumored that WWE superstar, Randy Orton, was the frontrunner to star in The Marine: Homefront, taking over for John Cena and Ted Dibiase(what were you thinking, Vince??) who featured in the last two films. Now Variety is confirming that Orton has won the job, with production set to begin in June.

Orton, known as "The Viper" to fans of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown, will play a Marine who takes on a radical militia group that kidnap his rebellious daughter, while also planning a devastating terrorist attack. That's some serious multi-tasking.

As for who will direct? Usually the WWE hangs around on the cheap end of the totem pole when looking for people to spearhead their films, but I think they've made a good choice this time. Scott Wiper, who directed Stone Cold Steve Austin in The Condemned, is in early talks for the job. Wiper recently wrote the script and exec produced The Cold Light of Day, the action flick starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis, and Sigourney Weaver. The Condemned is still, at least in my mind, the best WWE Studios film yet, so this is a solid choice. The Cold Light of Day looks awful, though.

The Marine: Homefront is the first in a three-picture deal signed between WWE Studios and Fox Home Entertainment.
