Sex, violence, and Robert Pattinson. Watch the first teaser for David Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis'!
One thing that has been apparent as Twilight lurches toward its conclusion later this year, is that heartthrob Robert Pattinson has been furiously trying to distance himself from the Edward Cullen role and that genre in particular. He wants to be a serious actor, and looking at it purely on a creative level he's found some success playing Salvador Dali in Little Ashes, starring opposite Reese Witherspoon in Water for Elephants, and in the upcoming adaptation of Bel Ami. Unfortunately those movies didn't reach a wide enough audience to make people look at Pattinson differently, but the best chance for that to happen is hopefully right around the corner.
The film that's going to do it once and for all looks to be Cosmopolis, David Cronenberg's adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel that's like the most bizarre version of The Odyssey you ever read. This will be Cronenberg's first film without Viggo Mortensen in years, and frankly it looks like the best thing he's done over that stretch of time. Pattinson plays self destructive 20-something millionaire, Eric Packer, who goes on a crazy trek across Manhattan in his souped up limo during an awful day of traffic. We're now getting our first look at the teaser for the film, and it's a ridiculous, hazy whirlwind of gun violence, sex, swanky night clubs, and the occasional giant monster rat.
Jay Baruchel, Paul Giamatti, Samantha Morton, Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, and Mathieu Amalric co-star. No US release date is set, but likely won't be long after the French debut in May. Check out the trailer below...
