Sure Shots: Jake Gyllenhaal, 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman'; Seth Rogen

* Could this be the movie Jake Gyllenhaal dropped out of Motor City for? He'll next take on dual roles in The Double, directed by the suddenly very busy Denis Villenueve(Incendies). Based on the novel by Jose Saramago, Gyllenhaal will play a depressed English teacher who is encouraged to rent a specific movie to lift his spirits. In the middle of the night he awakens to find the movie replaying on its own, and to his astonishment discovers that one of the characters in the film looks exactly as he did five years ago. Of course he tracks the guy did and the crap hits the fan. This will likely be the next film for Villenueve, who just recently found a lead in Hugh Jackman for Prisoners, a project he's been attached to since last year. [Variety]

* A bit of sad news about one of the few animated flicks I was truly excited for. Last year we learned that Robert Downey Jr. would be the lead voice in Mr. Peabody and Sherman, based on the cartoon that was a part of The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Downey was set to voice Mr. Peabody, the genius dog who along with his pet human, Sherman, would travel in the WABAC machine to visit key historical moments. The ever busy Downey has unfortunately left the 3D feature, leaving that role open. However, Modern Family's Ty Burrell has stepped in to voice Sherman. Rob Minkoff(The Lion King) will direct, with the release set for May 21st 2014.

* Yes! More interracial buddy cop comedies, please! Those are always great! Seth Rogen and Kevin Hart, both very familiar with one another after The 40 Year Old Virgin and the awesome Undeclared, will star in an untitled cop comedy set up at Paramount. The script comes from Rodney Rothman, who also worked with Rogen on Undeclared(that show was a fountain of comedic talent), and has the two investigating a drug ring during the post-WWII jazz scene. Kevin Hart has been growing on me lately, and he's a guy who deserves to break free from the crappy movies he's been doing lately.  Now the search is on for a director, and don't be surprised if one of Rogen's buds takes on the job. Maybe Greg Mottola? [Variety]
