The first trailer for last year's Cannes festival hit, 'Polisse'!
Comparing a movie to HBO's taut, immaculately constructed crime series, The Wire, is an easy way to draw attention, but it could also backfire if expectations aren't met. Polisse, a French film from writer/director/co-star Maïwenn(the ex-Mrs. Luc Besson), has been compared to to the show for the better part of a year, ever since it made a huge splash by winning the Jury Prize at last year's Cannes Film Festival. Now as it's about to premier at Tribeca later today, the first official trailer has been released and it looks great.
The story follows the Parisian Child Protection Unit, which is sorta like the gang from Law & Order: SVU. Basically they deal with some of the worst crimes you can imagine, as they all involve the most innocent of victims. Just based on this trailer alone, which is full of some tough, gritty moments and also a good deal of humanity as the cops try to cope with the emotional toll of their job. Polisse will open in theaters on May 18th....
