Malin Akerman doesn't think her Linda Lovelace biopic will happen

Back in February with the release of a new poster for Lovelace, the Amanda Seyfried/Peter Sarsgaard biopic of porn star Linda Lovelace, I speculated there wasn't room for two movies on a subject like this to exist. The other, titled Inferno, once had Lindsay Lohan in the lead role but she was too screwed up to even land a role as a porn star. She was replaced by Malin Akerman, and a pretty impressive cast including Matt Dillon, Sasha Grey, Adam Goldberg, and Harold Perrineau. The two films had been neck and neck for awhile, but as Lovelace is basically done, Inferno hasn't even started.

While Akerman was doing press for her upcoming comedy, The Giant Mechanical Man, she told THR that she doesn't think Inferno is going to happen....

Akerman: "I don't know if that's even going to go. Last I heard, which was just before Christmas, we were supposed to start shooting in March, and now it's April. It's been one of those doomed films that I absolutely love and totally believe in, I love the script, I think it's such a well-written script about the behind-the-scenes of a battered woman."

Finding financing has proven to be tough, as producers aren't likely to back a film with such limited upside and a high wattage rival coming out months beforehand...

Akerman:  "It's a big one to take a chance on because it's really some heavy content. So I don't know what's been going on, I don't know why it hasn't gone yet. I would hope and love for it to go, but now this other movie is coming on that Amanda Seyfried did, and I kind of feel like, 'Shit, we should have been on that, we should have done it."

This isn't all that surprising, and it's unfortunate because this would have been a chance for Akerman to prove she has a deeper range than has been displayed thus far.
