Owen Wilson puts on his action hero hat for 'The Coup'
Owen Wilson: Action Star? It's not that far fetched, as he's got more experience in the genre than many remember. You didn't forget Behind Enemy Lines, did you? Eh, you probably tried to, and I wouldn't blame you for it. He's getting back into the game for the first time in years as he'll star in The Coup, for co-writer/director, John Erick Dowdle(Quarantine).
Co-written with Dowdle's brother, Drew, the story sounds like something Liam Neeson would be a more natural fit for. Wilson will play the patriarch of a family that moves to southeast Asia, forced to protect them when a violent coup erupts and rebels begin attacking the city.
Kindof an odd choice for Wilson, as he's not one of those actors that necessarily needs to branch out into other avenues to remain successful. In fact, he may do more harm than good if the movie turns out to be a dud. Maybe if it were more of an action buddy comedy, ala Shanghai Noon, then it would make more sense. [Deadline]
