Tops at the Box Office: 'Think Like A Man' helps itself to #1!
1. Think Like A Man- $33M
I've been amazed by my friends and colleagues who have been crowing about the possibility of Think Like A Man knocking The Hunger Games out of the top spot like it's some sort of huge victory for African-American cinema. If it is, it has nothing to do with the five-week reigning box office champ, but for seeing a group of talented supporting players finally getting their chance to shine on a national level. Based on the overrated self help book by Steve Harvey, the film not only performed well, it out-performed most analyst projections and when you consider it only opened at 2100 theaters these numbers are even more extraordinary.
2. The Lucky One- $22.8M
Debuting the same ball field as most other Nicholas Sparks adaptations, The Lucky One is looking to be another mid-level hit for the author, and a big win for star, Zac Efron. Does this make him an instant leading man? Probably not, but between this and the similar numbers earned for 17 Again, it shows he has a steadily growing following.
3. The Hunger Games- $14.5M/$356.9M
4. Chimpanzee- $10.2M
After a couple years of slumping figures for their nature docs, Disney found their biggest hit in years with Chimpanzee, because people love watching baby monkeys doing...pretty much anything. Type in "baby monkey" on YouTube and see what I mean.
5. The Three Stooges- $9.2M/$29.35M
6. The Cabin in the Woods- $7.75M/$27M
7. American Reunion- $5.2M/$48.3M
8. Titanic 3D- $5M/$52.8M
9. 21 Jump Street- $4.6M/$127M
10. Mirror Mirror- $4.1M/$55.2M
