New photo of Rachel Weisz and Jeremy Renner in 'The Bourne Legacy'
With the exception of an intense, vintage style teaser trailer, we've seen surprisingly little on The Bourne Legacy. Some will take that as some sort of fear over new star Jeremy Renner not having the same appeal as Matt Damon, but really, secrecy seems to be the name of the game for every studio this summer. I wouldn't read that much into it. If people haven't gotten over Damon's departure yet, then they never will. Best to just accept that this is a fresh story set in the same world as the other Bourne movies, with many of the same players involved, and sit back and enjoy what should be another thrilling ride from series writer turned director, Tony Gilroy.
A new photo has been released, and it features Renner as Aaron Cross, an agent of Operation Outcome, which from what we've heard is a more lethal version of the shadowy Treadstone group that haunted Jason Bourne through three flicks. We also get a look at Rachel Weisz as Marta, who looks to be going on the run with Cross in this image. Then again, her character has been kept largely under wraps, so don't be surprised if there's a darker edge to her. Let's hope she ends up better than Franka Potente's character did in The Bourne Supremacy.
We'll be getting a new full trailer this week in front of Snow White and the Huntsman, which should shed some light on the storyline. Edward Norton, Joan Allen, Stacy Keach, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, David Straithairn, and Scott Glenn will co-star when The Bourne Legacy opens on August 3rd. [EW]
