Ridley Scott wants Harrison Ford for an "amusing" cameo in his 'Blade Runner' sequel
I'm about four days away from finally putting to bed all the secrets and the rumors and everything surrounding Ridley Scott's Prometheus. The film itself will open on June 8th, and at that time you too will finally know whether all the fuss and the past few years of anxious coverage and hype was worth it. Whatever it turns out to actually be, we'll know soon enough, and then it'll be time to take a deep breath and get ready for what's right around the corner.
That would be Scott's upcoming sequel to his other sci-fi masterpiece, Blade Runner. What it looks like at this point is we that Scott may be a bit more forthcoming about what to expect. For instance, there's little confusion when the film will take place. It will be a true sequel, set a few years after the original. Scott brought back Hampton Fancher to help develop the story, and there will be a female protagonist. That's more than we knew about Prometheus after nearly a year, and it's only been a few months.
One thing that has been up in the air was whether or not Harrison Ford would reprise his role as Deckard. After initially looking like he would be back in some capacity, those rumors were shot down by a producer back in February, only to be trumped almost immediately by Scott who opened the door right back. In a conversation with The Independent, Scott made clear his intentions when it comes to Ford returning....
Scott: "I don't think it'll be Harry [starring]. But I've got to have him in it somewhere. That'd be amusing."
Some sites are trying to push this as Ford being "likely" to return, yet that's not at all what Scott has said here. He clearly wants him back, though, but Ford remains busy even now. Clearly, he's also plenty older than he was back then, so his presence would have to be handled in a couple of ways. They could possibly go the CG route, similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator Salvation. That would be plenty amusing in itself. Or, and this is what I'm hoping, that they'll play up the possibility of Deckard not being a replicant after all. Or, that the man the replicant was modeled after is still very much alive. Whatever the case, it sounds like it would merely be a cameo, if it even happens at all.
It'll probably be a good few years before we see this film round into shape. Scott is currently getting geared up to direct The Counselor, based on a script by Cormac McCarthy(No Country for Old Men), and starring Michael Fassbender.
