1st gorgeous images from Michel Gondry's 'Mood Indigo'
While Michel Gondry can be praised for some of the unique visual flourishes in The Green Hornet, it's actually been a long time since he's made a film that looks like what we expect from him. One of the things that was so special about movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, and Be Kind Rewind was the director's imaginative use of natural effects to give his films scope. His films often bear a resemblance to fine works of art.
Ever since we learned Gondry would be tackling an adaptation of Boris Vian's 1947 novel, Froth on the Daydream, it was clear this was the perfect opportunity to see the director go back to his roots. Now titled Mood Indigo, we're getting the first, striking new images from the film, and clearly Gondry is back to doing what he does best.
The film stars Romain Duris(The Beat That Skipped My Heart), Audrey Tautou(Amelie), Omar Sy(The Intouchables), Gad Elmaleh, Charlotte Lebon, Alain Chabat, Aissa Maiga, Philipe Torrenton and Natacha Regnier. It follows Colin, the wealthy inventor of an olfactory musical instrument who meets and quickly married Chloe, the woman of his dreams. Soon after she falls ill due to a water lily in her lungs, with surrounding her in fresh flowers the only way to treat it. The expense of it soon empties his bank account and sends them into hardship.
So this looks pretty damn good, although it's a little hard to tell what the heck is going on. What's up with that weird tank? Gondry's movies are too elaborate to be read through simple photos, so being a little confused doesn't surprise me much.
Filming continues in Belgium and France, likely for a release some time next year for the festival rounds. Check out the rest of the new images below....[Le Monde]
